Nature Music and Roger Payne
It is a bittersweet week – I am launching my new class on Nature Music and am dealing with the passing of the man who made nature musically relatable to everyone – Roger Payne. His 1970 album of humpback whale songs was a hit, not just with scientists, but humans who love music. As a CELLIST, he was able to recognize, capture, and share the whales’ unique resonant voices and surface them for people to connect with them and find a level of understanding and empathy with a sometimes mysterious and alien-seeming ocean and its creatures.
Speaking of aliens… the humpback whale recordings were sent into space so aliens could listen to them. So, the impact of Roger Payne’s work is felt throughout the galaxy.
Let’s continue the legacy of Roger Payne and finding the music in nature. Want to join in but not sure where to start? From now until June 23 there’s a launch discount on the Nature Music class.
