Heather at AGU 2024
The American Geophysical Union Fall Meeting this year is in Washington DC and I have a few fun roles I want to share with you.
My music will be featured as part of the Art & Science Plenary “What’s Next for Corals.” One of the pieces is Ghosts of the Reef, a soundscape composition I wrote exploring themes of coral bleaching.
“This will be an engaging session that underscores how transdisciplinary work at the intersections of science and art can be especially effective for addressing one of today’s most urgent environmental challenges.”
On Tuesday I will chair the Marine Energy session, of which I am a co-convener. These presentations are exploring the latest in the harnessing energy from the motion and gradients of the ocean. As part of this session, I will be presenting a poster on a workshop held this past summer on “Advancing Energy Futures Through Art.”
“Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL), under the sponsorship of the Department of Energy’s Water Power Technologies Office, organized a 2-day workshop to explore the role of art in energy and climate futures, with the focus on stimulating scientific innovation and public interest in research.”
And on Thursday, I will be giving a talk on behalf of the Ocean World of Sound team in Mexico: “Listening to the Ocean: Engaging Community In Conservation Through Passive Acoustic Monitoring.” It is exciting to share our important work on the MesoAmerican Reef with a global audience.
