Wombat Big, Puggle Small: Book Review
Even the smallest books for the smallest readers should foster curiosity and care for nature. One of my favorite board books is “Wombat Big, Puggle Small” by Renee Treml. I found it when I was looking for books for my daughter about puggles, since her nickname is Puggle. This book packs a lot of great content in just 22 pages and only 40 words.

What is a puggle?
A puggle is a baby echidna. Echidnas, like Platypuses, are Monotremes which are odd animals that are mammals but lay eggs. They live in Australia. Adults are spikey, but babies are less so.

What is a wombat?
Wombats also live in Australia, and are also mammals, but they are Marsupials, and mommy wombats have a pouch for baby, like kangaroos and opossums.

It’s a cute kids book with some hints at science, excellent illustrations, and opposite-themed text, that I don’t mind reading over and over.
