World Listening Day 2026

July 18 every year is World Listening Day. Listening can be accomplished in many different ways. The theme this year is “Listening as Practice” which also offers many possible interpretations.

Here are a few ideas for how to celebrate World Listening Day:

• Participate in the “Ways of Listening” global project
• Register an official World Listening Day activity
• Participate in an official World Listening Day Activity
• Start the Ocean World of Sound 30 Day Listening Challenge
• Go for a sound walk
• If you’re in the DC area, visit the Friendship Firehouse Museum in Alexandria on one of the few days it is open to the public, and learn about early fire fighting techniques that involved sound
