Microdocumentary highlighting marine bioacoustics research & conservation in Mexico

MARINE BIOACOUSTICS

Recording noise in shark habitats
  • Learning about the ocean by listening to it: gathering bio data via passive acoustic monitoring, which is innovative in that it gathers data without interfering with the life of an organism
  • Initiating passive acoustic monitoring of the Meso-American Reef
  • Creating The Listener Project: underwater sculpture installation combining art, science, and conservation to record the birth of a new reef

OCEAN ENERGY

DCIM100GOPROGOPR0126.JPG
  • Collaborating with U.S. Department of Energy to create new programs to develop renewable marine energy sources that can power ocean research devices
  • Advising on concerns over noise generated by energy installations in the ocean
  • Co-chairing ocean noise and marine life inter-agency task force
